The Red Lion is located right on the town cross in the centre of the market town of Wareham.

The area is the eastern gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site – wonderful walks along the South West Coast Path, passing Old Harry RocksLulworth Cove and Durdle Door.

Within our local Saxon walled town we have some fabulous walks with interesting information boards, the 1920s Rex Cinema, some great independent shops and businesses including The Purbeck Artisan Yard, Wareham Boat hire for a kayak, canoe, rowing boat or motor boat ride up the river and stunning churches at Lady St Mary and St Martin’s on the walls.

Fancy a day at the beach? Enjoy the stunning, rugged 4 mile stretch of sand at Studland National Nature Reserve.

If nature is more your thing, the RSPB reserve at Arne leads to outstanding views at Shipstall Point, a perfect place to discover the area’s rich wildlife and  Wareham Forest with the Sika Deer Trail is a haven of peace.

If you are a runner or cyclist contact Lisa in advance of your stay and we can provide you with routes ranging from a gentle 5km up to challenging 25km…..beware though Dorset runners don’t revel in downhill sections….we always know there will be a killer up hill to follow!
